Class limited to 4 students
20 week program divided into 4 parts.
Students must successfully complete PARTS I and II to continue on to PARTS III and IV
PART I - Sundays 1-4pm from February 17th - March 10th
PART II - Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-9pm from March 19th - April 30th
COST for PARTS I and II: $1600 + HST
A $250 non refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot
PART III - Tuesdays and Thursdays starting end of May
PART IV- Saturday or Sunday 1-4pm (start date TBD)
Minimum of 100 hours at home (5 hours a week) spent on researching, studying, reading and training
COST for PARTS III and IV: $1600 + HST

CURRICULUM OUTLINE:
PART 1:Dog basics (characteristics of different breeds, canine communication, socialization, stages of development, training tools, care, temperament testing). Dog psychology (how animals learn, classical and operant conditioning, motivation), Dog health basics (common illnesses, vaccines, canine First Aid, nutrition)
PART 1: Observing group classes, assisting group classes, teaching strategies (class structure, effective teaching tools, public speaking techniques, individualized help)
PART III: Practice teaching, filming for video feedback, how to work with all types of people and learning styles (effective teaching strategies)
PART IV:Behaviour Modification & Problem Solving (common dog issues, how to prevent common behavioural problems, how to solve common behavioural problems), how to do consultations, how to design a training program.
During the 16 week course you will be required to:
· Read the required reading (list provided at registration)
· Participate with your dog, at no additional charge, in the Ottawa Canine School’s Basic Obedience, Intermediate Obedience and Agility classes
You will be evaluated on the following:
· Questionnaires on required reading
· Training achieved with your dog (basic and intermediate obedience) and consultation and training plan developped for assigned case study.
· Your group teaching skills
