Good Manners Training (Obedience)

The Ottawa Canine School offers obedience training at all levels.

BASIC GOOD MANNERS
Looking to teach your dog to walk well on leash, ignore distractions and improve their recall?  Start here.

Summer Mini Class – Basic Good Manners (a.k.a. Basic Obedience)

Two-week classes just for the summer to teach your dog basic indoor and outdoor manners!

This class is designed for dogs and owners who would like to brush up on a few skills, need a “refresher” before taking other intermediate-level classes, or want to work on basic obedience skills.

The Basic Good Manners mini classes are equivalent to our Basic Good Manners curriculum.  You can customize your package by selecting the mini classes that pique your interests, or you can take them all to earn the Basic Good Manners graduate*.

*Must finish all 3 classes by the END OF SUMMER 2017 to earn an equivalent of BGM graduate.  Please view our calendar here for planning.

Mini Class A: Foundation and Focus – this class focuses on basic skills such as sit, down, stay, polite greetings, etc.  Varying levels of distractions will be introduced to proof these behaviours.  This mini class is suitable for dogs that want to improve foundation skills and focus on the handler.

Mini Class B: Impulse Control – this class focuses on teaching your dog to have better “on and off” switch.  Dogs will learn how to leave it, take it, drop, wait, etc.  This mini class is suitable for dogs that need better self-control and learn how to “do nothing”.

Mini Class C: Beginner Out and About – this class focuses on basic leash handling skills (for the humans!), loose leash walking, and recall.  This class is suitable for dogs that need to learn polite on- and off- leash manners.

All our mini classes include activities to teach your dog how to enjoy grooming and handling.

Alumni: For our graduates who need more practice before moving onto the next level – these mini classes are great refreshers for classes such as Outdoor Manners and Good Manners 2.

Classes are limited in size to be able to offer you the best quality of instruction a group class can offer. There is no off-leash play as the dogs are now learning to focus on you and behave on-leash.

Price: $70 + tax (for 1 mini class) or $200 + tax (for 3 mini classes**)

**When you take 3 mini classes of A, B and C, the 3rd class is at the discounted rate of $60. Once you register for the 3rd class, an invoice will be e-mailed to you with the discounted price.

Course length: 2 lessons / 60 minutes each (a short break at the halfway mark)

Prerequisites: This class is for dog friendly dogs; if you're unsure if your dog would be a good fit for this class, check out our popular Reactive Rover class or contact us with your questions.  Dogs must be at least 6 months and have up to date vaccines.
